All this and more is currently available in Downtown Wheeling at Centre Market and The Highlands, located off Interstate 70 about 10 miles east of downtown Wheeling.
Shopping at the historic Centre Market is a unique experience, as crafters and small business owners hawk their wares. The world-famous Coleman’s Fish Market also is located in Centre Market. Wheeling’s Centre Market, built in 1853, is older than the state itself. The upper market house, the oldest market house in the country, was originally an open air market. The lower market house was built in 1891 and houses an eclectiv mix of shops, and quality dining. Centre Market has over 40 restaurants, shops and businesses.
Shop in North Wheeling at the Eckhart House for the perfect gifts or souvenirs, this gift shop is unique in the fact that it is in one of our historic Victorian Homes. Also, find Wheeling and West Virginia made products at the Artisan Center. Blown glass, pottery and gourmet items are just a few items that line the shelves of this fantastic attraction.
Cabela’s outdoor megastore serves as the anchor to the development, which currently boasts
38 businesses.
Known as the “World’s Foremost Outfitter,” Cabela’s offers a unique retail destination that combines a massive outfitter store with elements of a wildlife museum.
The 175,000-square-foot retail store has ample parking and is easily accessible to passing motorists. The Wheeling store features a 30-foot-tall replica mountain, a 12,000-square-foot trophy deer museum, a library of collectible firearms, an archery range, an African diorama and a 55,000-gallon aquarium that houses fish native to the local area.
Cabela’s retail department includes camping, archery, hunting and firearms, fishing and fly fishing, marine equipment, footwear, automotive and all-terrain vehicle, men’s and women’s casual apparel, camouflage apparel, furniture, gifts, the bargain cave, general store and a 180-seat restaurant.
Other than Cabela’s, The Highlands includes dining options such as Olive Garden, Cheddars, Applebees, Eat ‘N Park, Bob Evans, Quiznos, Cracker Barrel, Cold Stone Creamery, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Russell Stover Candies and Panera Bread.
On the shopping end, there are large department stores such as JCPenney, Kohls; there’s a Target and a Wal-Mart; Books-a-Million; T.J. Maxx; Bed Bath & Beyond; Fashion Bug; and more.
